True Spirit on the Ground: My School Athletic Meet Memories

Sports meet — one of the best parts of my school life. It wasn’t just a day; it was a season full of sweat, effort, laughs, and unforgettable memories. In our school, we had three houses: Andrew, Merthine, and Marceline. I was a proud member of Andrew House as an athlete, giving my all to see my house shine.

I still remember how we trained in the early mornings under the golden sky, panting and laughing with our housemates. We pushed our limits, cheered each other on, and dedicated every bit of our spirit to our house. It wasn’t about one person’s effort—it was teamwork, hard work, and heart.

Even though my best friends belonged to other houses, they never stopped cheering for me when i'm on the ground. That’s something I’ll never forget—the love that went beyond competition. Their happiness when I won was so genuine, even if it meant another house was getting points.

And even when we were in three houses, we played for them—but we gave our effort to shine the school name. Because in the end, it was not just about who won. It was about representing our school with pride and unity.

The sports meet day was exhausting, but beautiful. After band practices, I remember how we lay down on the ground, completely drained but smiling. And yes—we even cut a few periods for practice, but no regrets! The bond we shared with our teammates and even with our teachers made everything worthwhile.

Team Andrew 💚

Our teachers stood by us like family—guiding, caring, cooking, and supporting us. And the parents too—working behind the scenes to make our houses come alive.

Once, our houses were given ‘World Heritages’ as a theme, and we created a model of the iconic Sigiriya. But on the night before sports meet, it rained heavily and damaged our creation. That morning, something amazing happened—housemates from other houses helped us repair it. Even in competition, we had kindness and unity.

That year, Andrew House won. It wasn’t just a victory—it was a celebration of teamwork, dedication, and love.

Our band display was another adventure—practicing hard, sweating under the sun, laughing through mistakes, and secretly enjoying the breaks from class. We had little arguments with other houses during house meetings, but on the day of the sports meet, we were one big family. We stood separated until the winning house was announced—but after that, we were all together again, dancing at the after-party, sharing snacks, laughs, and stories.

Sportsmeet After Party 2020

Sports meet wasn’t just about sports. It was about sportsmanship, respect, dedication, leadership, and love. I saw those values alive in every match, in every cheer, in every helping hand.

Now, as an alumni, I attended sports meet this year sitting in the audience. When I was in uniform, I used to dream of becoming one of those old christonions sitting comfortably, watching from the auditorium. But now, I know the truth—real joy isn’t in the shade; it’s in the heat, on the ground, sweating with friends, carrying house flag high.

"She was my competition. She was also my biggest cheerleader. Sports meet brought us together again."

And I’ll always carry those memories with me—memories of unity, courage, fun, and a heart full of Andrew House pride. 💚
