My Best Friend in School: Why We Clicked

"Years passed , paths changed , but our bond remains unshaken - just like the first day"

First I met her on my first school day. She was sitting next to me and offered me a sticker. She was a cute little girl with long hair. From there to here, she is my best friend. That’s how we met and became friends. We spent time together, studied together, got blamed together, and got punished together. Her name is Pathumini, and I call her Pathu.

She is the one who understands me the most in my life. Our friendship is special because she is a kind-hearted listener and my constant support system for 16 years. She was my caregiver at school, and I admire her the most. She supported me with my studies, completed my notes when I was sick or at practice.

We share so many memories together. one of the funniest was in Grade 9, when we were in different classes. I wrote her a letter during maths class because I was bored. That day, prefects came to check our bags and she got caught with the letter. She panicked and ate it to avoid trouble!

We were also proud members of the College Girls Western Band, and we shared many beautiful memories through it. Even though we were in different classes and went on school trips in separate buses, we always found ways to enjoy together.

She taught me many lessons, like how to listen and comfort others. From childhood to adulthood, she’s been my biggest supporter. I was always the troublemaker and she was the innocent one but still, she stood by me even when she wasn’t at fault. She is one of the most trusted friends in my mother's eyes. When I won academic and sports prizes, she was my biggest fan, always giving me a proud smile.

Today, our paths are different. She’s busy with her job as a supply chain manager and her university studies, but when I’m not okay and send her a message, she still listens. She always says, “You can do this, I trust you. And remember i'm always there for you even we don't talk in everyday"

Even if I have many friends now, I truly love and admire her. Even if we don’t talk every day, she’ll always be by my side through thick and thin—just like she was in school. I’m truly grateful to God for having her in my life.

"Years of laughter , lessons and unspoken support - all captured in one schoolyard smile"
